NO DESTINATION

A map of free camping locations, points of interest, my favourite places to stop and spend a day, other people’s camping sites that I haven’t gotten around to checking out, and places I still plan on exploring during my further adventures exploring Ontario. I hope the use of this map helps make your adventure a more enjoyable experience, and I would love to hear about it. Sincerely, I hope you trek out from one of my sites as a base camp and explore. Use the contact page to tell me about how it went, provide me feedback so I can include or remove sites from my site. Send me pictures, maps or stories. I’d appreciate it all.

Again, pick up after yourself and others, respect it all and please remember when you are pitching your camp, not only does Lake Superior experience amazing storms to consider, crazy weather and year-round icy cold water, it also has an effect that seems similar to a tide. Called a seiche(1) or a slosh on the Great Lakes, they are almost always present on Superior. Frequently causing the water to change depths dramatically and the most profound I’ve ever seen it was on old woman bay as the water was farther out and shallower than I’d ever seen it. With waves that have been measured at 26 ft and the seiches make sure you camp well back from the edge of the water. I have many other sites catalogued, but due to their blatant trespassing, or questionable legality, I'll keep those for myself.

(1)A seiche (pronounced “saysh”) is the rocking motion of water in a lake or similarly closed or partially closed water body. Scientists call the pendulum-like movements within seiches “free standing-wave oscillations.” Seiches, or sloshes as they are sometimes called on the Great Lakes, are almost always present on Lake Superior..........
